Inspired Textile Arts
I am often asked where I get my designs and inspirations for pieces and I always answer:
"They make themselves."
I start with a general idea of what type of item I want to create and then the look, weight
and feel of the fibres I am using lead me to discover the piece.
Some pieces are created in a day while others take weeks or months to evolve. Each
piece is unique and even if I had the desire to, I would not reproduce it.
I have found if I am trying too hard to create a piece, I work very slowly
and am not satisfied with the results. It is only when I allow my ego to take a back seat to the fibres that I become
fully engaged with each piece.
I will often be in the middle of working on a piece and stop to rest, stretch or relax.
At that time I usually take a moment to look at the piece and find myself laughing out loud in amusement at what is being
created in my hands!
Some friends have called it Zen Art. I agree and will add that it
is extremely satisfying and amusing!
